Synopsis
When a grudge from the dead passes to the living - Who is safe?

And now, a list of things I will no longer be doing after seeing this movie:
-Playing peek-a-boo
-Sleeping with the covers on
-Watching security camera footage
-Taking the stairs
-Taking the elevator
-Watching any kind of television
-Eating at fancy restaurants
-Using a phone
-Looking in a mirror
-Wearing clothes
-ShoweringAnyways, I'm off to enjoy my new life as an agoraphobic nudist hermit. Have fun, y'all!
(TL;DR: the last time a movie scared me this much was when I saw Alien for the first time.)

Lightning in a bottle. There's a lot here that shouldn't work. Ju-on: The Grudge doesn't really have a story, outside of the gradually unfolding explanation as to what happened to Kayako in order to turn her house into a gateway to Hell. The budget is barebones, which forces a number of stylistic choices and casting decisions that should have just strangled the film from birth. And for a movie in which (by my count) 15 people die, there's very little gore or call for practical/special effects. Given its origins in direct-to-video cinematic standards, this very easily could have been forgettable space filler.
It all works together, though. The Saeki house and its tract home banality imparts a weird sense of…

Whenever the creepy little boy isn't on screen, all the other characters should be asking, "where's the creepy little boy??"

ghost lure & ghost loop & a ghost is a LOOP.
i think i love these ghosts because they are always repeating the same things over and over. they had a bad experience in life and it bound them inexorably to orbiting that same moment for all of time. and when i woke up after a very panick evening in which i failed at doing socializing but felt so comforted & grateful to have been asked to be there but also even comfier slipping away knowing the hubbub was a coat of sound on this fraction of earth orb like a bubble or blanket and i was back in a dimly lighted bedroom with a cat standing briefly on my tummy and giving…

Haunting supernatural tale of foreboding and impending doom! Creepy imagery and storyline make this a Halloween favorite! However I felt the non linear format only served to confuse not enhance!
For creating the most widely recognized and horrifying character's Kayako (the murdered wife) and Toshio (the murdered son) I salute you!

They know how to make horror movie. See Hollywood still having a bunch of teenagers running around yelling WTF WTF bro bro till the end.

Review by Slig001 ★★½ 2
The Grudge breaks with the haunted house tradition by having the haunting ghosts attach to people instead of bricks and mortar. The film also dispenses with the ideas of having a main character or telling a story, leaving it feeling more like a collection of loosely connected short stories rather than a coherent film. The film is very effective on a visceral level; there's plenty of stand out and memorable sequences and the ghosts themselves are something of a marvel - mainly due to the horrible noise they make! Honestly though it is the lack of plot or characters that ultimately harms this. Putting together a creepy sequence is one thing but without a reason to care about what is happening...i just didn't care all that much about what was happening.
